Carlos Florentino

Carlos Florentino obtained an undergraduate degree in Theoretical Physics and Technological Engineering, in 1992, at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon.
He became interested in the Mathematical tools and concepts in Theoretical Physics, especially in their geometric aspects, and completed his PhD in Mathematics, at SUNY Stony Brook, in 1997, under the supervision of Prof. Leon Takhtajan.
His research falls mainly within 4 areas: geometry and topology of character varieties, their relation with holomorphic bundles on Kähler manifolds, geometric quantization of moduli spaces, and geometric invariant theory.
He was Professor and Researcher at I.S.T. between 1998 and 2015, where he obtained the Agregação in Mathematics, in 2008. At present, he is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and Researcher in CMAFcIO (collaborating also with CAMGSD and GFM-UL).
He is Editor of the “Boletim” of the Portuguese Mathematical Society, and of the CIM Bulletin.
